Heron by the water

Okay.. from now on, I'm going to try and update this in Japanese, too.

Is this a heron? I'm not really sure.. but on my way to Lake Biwa, I saw this little dude just chilling by the water and thought he might like to get his shot taken. But every time I tried to approach him, he'd freak out and fly away..

.. but only to the other side of the water, which wasn't very far.

この鳥は白鷺でっでしょうか。あまり知りませんが琵琶湖に歩いている間に白鷺を見て、白鷺が多分写真を取っているのが好きだと思っていました。でも近く白鷺に歩いてみて、鳥がびっくりするようになって、いつも飛んでしまって、大変です・・でもどこに飛びますか。

・・あまり遠くなくて、左側に飛びました。
