Sakura by the OokawaPosted by Luna (Osaka, Japan) on 7 April 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture. Today was my true first day of "teaching" in a brand new school year (actually, I had to come in and introduce myself at opening ceremonies at a brand new junior high school I was placed at) and the school is quite nice - but also next to a ginormous cherry blossom tree. I witnessed my very first school opening ceremony - which is pretty similar to graduation/closing ceremonies. They're very formal, serious, and headed by lots of singing of school songs, speeches made by sempai and kouhai students, and introduction of teachers (including me) to help first guide the first year students. Overall the ceremony was pretty smooth, but like many pre-adolescents, sometimes the students would get pretty carried away during speeches, especially when the new school principal introduced himself. Of course, that's not what's depicted in this photo, but remember that this site is part blog also! This was taken near Sakuranomiya, where it seems like a few Osaka-jin felt that they needed to truly be closer to the action, and perhaps was a great move on their part. If you live near an area where you're able to walk under cherry blossoms every day, a whole umbrella orchard of them all.. man, I envy you so much right now.. snippet about this photoblog This photoblog is mostly to cover my experiences and adventures on the JET Programme as an Osaka City ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) through photographs, from beginning to end.
